The Vow That Twisted Fate Receives 5-Star Readers' Favorite Review

Readers' Favorite announces the review of the Fiction - Fantasy - Epic book "The Vow That Twisted Fate" by Katherine D. Graham, currently available at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SKX5XX7.

Readers' Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites on the Internet. They have earned the respect of renowned publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins, and have received the "Best Websites for Authors" and "Honoring Excellence" awards from the Association of Independent Authors. They are also fully accredited by the BBB (A+ rating), which is a rarity among Book Review and Book Award Contest companies.

Reviewed By Cecelia Hopkins for Readers' Favorite

The Vow That Twisted Fate by Katherine D. Graham sees Queen Arlena don the angel pendant that had belonged to her ancestor Queen Valera. Soon after this, the phantom of Valera passes her a dwarven dagger. Despite being urged against carrying the dagger, Valera invokes the oath associated with the dagger. This summons Maevric Stormbender and his band of select warriors to her side. Can they help Arlena defend her kingdom from an evil that arises after a gap of 500 years? What is the mysterious connection between Valera, Arlena, and the evil Maedra? The kingdom must be made safe for her sister Elzie.

The Vow That Twisted Fate by Katherine D. Graham is a work of high fantasy. I thought Arlena was brave and gave a lot of herself for the peace and safety of her people. Her relationship with Talon was particularly complex and compelling. The torture scenes were genuinely distressing and I felt strong empathy toward Arlena. There was an overwhelming sense of grief and loss when she returned to find the kingdom had moved on without her. I liked the fact that her generous spirit and willingness to see the best in all creatures were pivotal to the plot. The perspectives of long-lived, short-lived, and mid-lived beings were beautifully delineated and contributed to world-building. I was surprised and intrigued to learn that long-lived races could be the most heedless instead of the wisest but found the logic convincing. The Vow That Twisted Fate by Katherine D. Graham provides a unique perspective and creates a dark and persuasive fairy story."

Holidays In Fantasy Worlds

12/22/2021

Do you love holidays in fantasy worlds?

In honor of the holiday season, here are three holidays that are exclusive bonus content just for you from my three fantasy universes:

Unification Tributary Festival
(Starfire Express: A Flame of Fae & Fang)

Every year in The Central City, champions from all the different dimensions in the Starfire Express universe gather for the Unification Tributary Festival.

In honor of the Dragon Overlords, who liberated the worlds from the Fairy Court's iron-fisted rule, every world brings luxurious food in abundance for an outdoor feast in the City Square.

Streets are decorated with strings of gold and green lights and lanterns.

A grand arena (once used by the Fairies for executions), now serves as a place where Champions from outlying worlds can duel for the opportunity to bring their families permanently to the Central City and all its comforts.

Tilling Day Celebration
(The Vow That Twisted Fate)

The grandest celebration in Queen Arlena's innocent world falls on the first day of spring--the first day where farmland is tilled.

After a Soil-Breaking ceremony, where the Queen breaks the first ground of the season and leaves a magical Wish for abundance for the next harvest, the Castle Chefs serve a feast in the main hall for all the people to enjoy.

Marriage ceremonies in the main hall are often scattered throughout the day, at which the Queen leaves more Wishes for long marriages and many children.

Children participate in annual games of skill, hoping to be selected by a master of their choice trade for future apprenticeships.

The day ends with bonfires, dancing, and a special magical fireworks display in the Market.

Doubling Day Festival
(Splitting Worlds Series)

While all the worlds in the Splitting Worlds universe have their own holidays which vary by culture, the Doubling Day Festival is a day that all races (except Humans) celebrate.

As Doubling Day is the day that the gods sacrificed over half of their family line to separate one world into four separate dimensions (for the survival of all races), it is a highly-respected religious holiday.

Shrines are packed with worshipers who bring incense and financial offerings to support the gods who reside within each of the Worlds. Parades bring the new year's tributes of linen and supplies to the High Temples, where the priests and monks perform plays reenacting the Doubling.

Standing-room-only feasts are held just outside the Temple grounds, where--between courses--everyone from the tiniest toddler to the oldest elder are invited to join in ritual dances late into the evening.

The evening ends with a person pledge to the gods, which is written in blood on a smooth flat stone. The stones are added to an ever-building Oath Wall, which encompasses the Temple grounds.

YES, you read that right! My debut epic fantasy novel, The Vow That Twisted Fate, wins a spot in The Writer Community's 2022 book club, thanks to YOUR votes!

To say I was surprised when I woke up this morning is a massive understatement. There were 19 other books that were eligible for reader votes.

8 of those were written by authors I've admired for so long, that I was gobsmacked to even share a list with them (like the supremely talented Esme Carmichael, author of The End of Everything, and Rosalyn Brian, author of A Sea of Pearls and Leaves and The Crown of Bones).

Five indie books were voted into the 2022 book club, including:

-Matthew Romeo's The Maven Knight
-Elaine Debohun's All The Yellow Posies
-K.E. Andrews' The Assassin of Grins and Secrets
-Tenaya MKD's New Identity

Some of those books were already on my to-be-read list, so I'm thrilled to be able to read them.

Have you read any of these? Which one sounds most interesting to you?

If you'd like to join in on the Book Club reads/discussions in 2022, you can sign up for The Writer Community's book club and newsletter HERE.

Thank you so much for voting for The Vow That Twisted Fate! It is a greater honor than I can say!

I will also be donating 100% of all profits made on TVTTF October 1st thru the 4th 2021 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (to support childhood cancer research).

Self-Publishing Savvy? Or Self-Publishing Struggling?

9/29/2021

Are you self-publishing savvy? Or self-publishing struggling? Or, quite honestly, slipping back and forth between the two?

Yesterday I had the great privilege of speaking with AutoCrit Editing about not only my personal self-publishing journey with The Vow That Twisted Fate, but also about the self-publishing process overall.

There are so many different approaches to self-publishing (or "indie" publishing), that I humbly share my experiences as a fellow beginner "indie" author with the hopes that it will provide clarity for other writers in my shoes.

While most of my blogs are brief and related to my projects and supporting other authors in the indie author community, the response from yesterday's live was too overwhelming to leave at that.

Here are the key points that I discussed on my live with AutoCrit:

1.) Writing inspiration (in my case, a dream hijacked my 2016 NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month - plans) & my mentor, Lindsey (owener of Of Ink and Pearls Publishing)

2.) The five levels of editing (developmental edit, line edit, copy edit, proofread, galley proof) + Beta Reading & Self-editing using AutoCrit.

3.) Distribution Platforms (KDP, Barnes & Noble Press, Ingram) and Formats (AudioBooks, Print, etc.) as well as formatting/cover design

4.) Timelines (from revisions to print); what I wish I'd done sooner and why

5.)  Budget (how much did it cost me to truly self-publish and what that went toward - overview)

6.) Reviews (trade reviews and reader reviews, what I did to set up review tours, and post-launch marketing)

7.) Marketing in general (*still navigating this part myself* - From pre-orders to Amazon bestseller to post-launch slow-downs)

I'm embedding the full video to the left if you'd like to watch it yourself and hear everything we discussed. You can also watch the replay directly on YouTube HERE.

While yes, I do work with AutoCrit at this time, I had already completely finished The Vow That Twisted Fate (using their software) and had it ready to release before I came on board as their developmental editor.

For that reason, I am truly grateful for the money-saving, headache-relieving role that AutoCrit played in my self-editing process.

If you have any questions at all, or comments about your own experience self-publishing, feel free to drop them in the comments; I love hearing your feedback!

If you would like to try AutoCrit's self-editing software for yourself, you can do so by signing up for their Free Forever membership HERE.

Want to read the finished version of The Vow That Twisted Fate? It is on sale for only 99 cents (e-book) or $10 (paperback) on Amazon now thru October 4th 2021, so grab your copy today HERE.

The Vow That Twisted Fate Collector's Edition Hardback And Audiobook

9/19/2021

I know it's been a little while since I shared some news about my debut novel, but I am excited to share that a The Vow That Twisted Fate collector's edition hardback and audiobook are both in the works!

The amazingly talented Talon David (Singer/Songrwiter and Voiceover Artist) has partnered with me to graciously bring The Vow That Twisted Fate to life on audiobook.

Talon brings such passion and heart to TVTTF, that it has been truly an honor to listen to the world she's literally given a voice to. We are slated for completion of production this fall (2021).

While this is going, I am also happy to announce that I will be launching hardback collector's editions of The Vow That Twisted Fate exclusively on Amazon later this fall.

This unique edition incorporates brand new never-before seen interior page formatting (post-correction of some slippery typos that somehow escaped all five of us editors), a collector's edition cover (I know, how could it get better than the cover I already have?!) and in-book exclusive content I have never released anywhere else.

So which one are you more excited about? The collector's edition hardback? Or the audiobook?

-Don't want to wait to start reading TVTTF? Grab an ebook copy (on sale for only $1.99 thru September 30th 2021) HERE
