It's finally here...

The Vow That Twisted Fate Official Character Art is here!

You saw my character concept art over the past couple months, but that was paving the way for this moment! I could not be more excited to finally reveal the characters from my debut epic fantasy novel.

I do owe a huge shout-out and kudos to my amazing character artist, Fiverr's Sbsillustration. You can check out their Fiverr page HERE.

With thanks duly noted to my amazing artist, here is the art!

Valera & Maedra

Human Queen Valera the White is the queen who vanquished all evil from the world 500 years before, a feat accomplished only by sacrificing her own life. She was also one of Queen Arlena's ancestors. Queen Valera's phantasm guides Arlena from time to time in The Vow That Twisted Fate.

Dark Queen Maedra, an evil Sorceress from whom Valera defended the good in the world, was banished to another dimension along with all other evil creatures and evil things at the end of the Two Queen's War. After five hundred years, Maedra has finally found a way to reopen the gateway sealing the dimensions and is ready to re-merge and conquer the now unprepared world she was forced out of.
Picture

Arlena & Maevric

Human Queen Arlena the Fair has only ever ruled over a peaceful world. She dreamt of marrying her childhood best friend, Talen, and played politics with the other races in a world with little to fear. The Dark Queen's pentagram, a gateway to a dimension inhabited entirely by evil creatures, plunges Arlena into a war she thought ended 500 years ago.

Dwarven King Maevric Stormbender fought side-by-side with Arlena's ancestor, Queen Valera the white, whom he loved. His Vow to always come when Valera's blood-kin called in her battle against Dark Queen Maedra brings Maevric and his company of elite dwarven warriors forward 500 years in time to stand against his old foe and fight by Arlena's side.

Elzie & Talen

Human Princess Elzie, five years younger than Queen Arlena, is the Human Queen's kind-hearted and sweet younger sister. Full of life and  not afraid to stand up to a challenge, Elzie motivates Arlena to be the best queen and best version of herself.

Elven Prince Talen serves as Queen Arlena's 'Sworn'--the captain of her army and her body-guard. Talen has been Arlena's only friend since childhood, but his feelings toward her are ever-elusive. Stoic and well-trained, Talen may be young, but he is the deadliest soldier in both the Elven and Human kingdoms.

So there you have The Vow That Twisted Fate Official Character Art! Which character are you looking forward to learning more about? The full adventure is coming soon, and you won't wat to miss it!

It's time for a new writer fuel recipe: tonkatsu sandwich!

This week's writer fuel recipe is delicious and homey, and best eaten while the tonkatsu is still fresh and crispy.

Writer Fuel Recipe: Tonkatsu Sandwich Ingredients:

1 thin-sliced fresh pork chop
1tsp white flour
1 egg, beaten
2 tbl panko crumbs
1 cup peanut or vegetable oil (for frying)
2 slices whole wheat bread
One leaf of lettuce or shredded cabbage
1 tbl mayo (Kewpie is really good)
Tonkatsu sauce as condiment

Writer Fuel Recipe: Tonktasu Sandwich Instructions:

Heat your oil in a pan to medium-high heat.
Coat cutlet completely in flour first, then the egg, then the panko.
Fry the cutlet in oil (flipping when bottom is golden brown) until heated through to a safe-to-consume temperature.
Set cutlet on paper towel or rack to drain grease.
Toast bread (optional), then spread mayo on both sides. Place cutlet on the bread, drizzle with tonkatsu sauce and add lettuce/cabbage.
Enjoy!

Have you had a 'katsu sando' before? If so, how do you like it?

Photo is of the tonkatsu sandwich at the Studio Ghibli Museum cafe in Tokyo (I took the photo myself, June 2019). This post is not affiliated with Studio Ghibli in any way.

Soothing Broth

Queen Arlena and her younger sister Princess Elzie lost their mother in a tragic landslide accident when they were both young. This broth is one that the Queen Mother used to personally make her daughters when they felt ill. In The Vow That Twisted Fate, this broth brings Arlena warm memories of the comfort and love of her mother.

Every queen has their favorite food, and Queen Arlena is no different. In the book, her Sworn bodyguard and best friend, Elven Prince Talen, brings her this sandwich without her even having to ask. His heart-warming action speaks to their life-long friendship and Talen's uncanny ability to notice even small details of Arlena's preferences.
